Our Adoption Process and Guidelines are designed to ensure that each animal is placed with a responsible person prepared to make a lifelong commitment, and to avoid the kinds of problems that may have caused the animal to be brought to the shelter in the first place.
An important part of the process is to match the life-style and needs of the adopter with the individual animal being adopted.
If the screening process occasionally seems overly strict, try to remember that the shelter's first priority is to protect the animal's best interests.
In order to insure that your selected dog(s) or cat(s) are the right match, we request that everyone who lives in the household to come and interact with your choice(s) before the application is considered complete and becomes active.
There may be other applications on the animal for which you are applying. Once an applicant has been approved, subsequent applications on the same animal will not be accepted. The Board of Directors will determine the best placement for the animal. It is not a first come, first served basis. If there are multiple applications, when possible, we will let the applicants know upfront and encourage them to select another pet as a backup.
