We’re thrilled that you're looking at The Cat Corner to adopt your next companion!

Our volunteers work hard on enriching their lives through daily playtime and grooming to ensure each of our babies makes a smooth transition into it's new home.
Prior to visit the shelter or contacting us, please look over our Adoption Tools below. Follow the steps and thoroughly look over our Adoption Process page. Most, if not all, of your questions you may have will be answered on these helpful tools below.

Step One:
Look over our Adoption Process
Before browsing over all of our adoptable cats and kittens, we ask for you to please look over our Adoption Process page. This page will ensure that you qualify to adopt and will also go over what you should bring with you when meeting us, our adoption fees, and what standard medical care that all of our cats receive in our care.
Adoption Process
Step Two:
Search our Adoptables
You have read over our adoption process... now it is time to find the right fit for you! You may see a few animals listed as "Courtesy Listing". These are animals that are in need of homes but are not being adopted through The Cat Corner and are instead being re-homed through their current owner, contact the owner directly if you have questions.

Step Three:
Fill out an Adoption Application
What's easier and more stress-free then to be able to fill out an application to adopt online? Once you fill out the application you will still need to come in and spend time with the animals and talk to our volunteers to insure its a good fit. This could be a 10, 15, or even 20+ year commitment so we want to be sure it is the right fit for both the animals and you.

TIMING
The approval process can take a week or two depending on your availability and our fosters’ schedules, as well as how long it takes for you to complete all the needed steps. The Cat Corner is run by a team of volunteers from our community who love cats & dogs. We are just regular people with jobs, kids, and lives whose time is as limited as yours. That means that during periods of high activity or seasonal vacations the process may take a little longer.

THE PET YOU APPLY FOR IS NOT GUARANTEED
If the screening process occasionally seems overly strict, try to remember that the shelter's first priority is to protect the animal's best interests. Some of the animals that are in our care have already had such a rough start at life, our hopes is to find them that perfect forever home where they will never end up on the streets or in a shelter again. An important part of the process is to match the life-style and needs of the adopter with the individual cat or cats being adopted.

Please also keep in mind that there may already be other adoption applications placed on the particular cat or dog you are interested in. We do not move our animals into a "pending" status until 1) we have already received an adoption application, 2) they have completed a successful meet & greet, and 3) we have received all necessary documents for the adoption. Adoptions fall through often and for varies reasons, because of this we want to be sure that a "pending" status does not deter another potential home, in the event the other one falls through.

how long does it take to get approved?
There are certain steps that need to be followed, some of which you have full control over. So depending on how long you take to complete those steps, depends on how long it takes for your newly adopted cat to come home to you. In general, it takes between 1-2 days once approved for your new cat or kitten to be delivered to it's new home. Click here for a full list of our adoption process.
Is it difficult to adopt?
The Cat Corner has policies for approving adoptions. They are designed to ensure that each cat is placed with a responsible person prepared to make a lifelong commitment, and to avoid the kinds of problems that may have caused the animal to be brought to the shelter in the first place. An important part of the process is to match the life-style and needs of the adopter with the individual cat or cats being adopted. If the screening process occasionally seems overly strict, try to remember that the shelter's first priority is to protect the cat’s best interests.
What are your requirements for adopting?
  • Adopter must be at least 25 years of age and have proper identification (driver's license, military ID, or official state ID).
  • All members of the household should be present prior to the adoption being approved.
  • All animals must be indoor house pets.
  • Adopter(s) must be willing to allow a Cat Corner representative to deliver your new cat to it's new forever home.
  • If at any time, you are unable to keep the cat(s), or unable to provide it with proper care, you must contact The Cat Corner. We accept any of our cats back into our shelter.
  • Adoption fees are nonrefundable. The Cat Corner is a nonprofit, no-kill rescue organization. All funds go to help the cats. If you decide that the cat is not a good fit for you and your family, the adoption fee may go towards one of our other available cats for adoption.
  • Potential adopters that have a history of animal abuse or neglect or who have turned in animals because they did not want them any more or who fail to provide vet information, need not apply.

I would like to adopt from The Cat Corner but your shelter hours are inconvenient...
If you would like to visit our shelter but our hours are inconvenience, please contact us to make an appointment. We do ask for you to FIRST fill out the online adoption application prior to emailing us to making an appointment.
What if I have questions after I get my new cat home?
We understand that after you get our cat home, the adjustment period can be difficult. We encourage you to call or email us with any questions or problems. We are very experienced with pet transitions and welcome the opportunity to help make it as smooth for you and your cat as possible. Many volunteers will even give you their personal phone numbers. And even when all is going well, we love getting calls just to know how they are doing. Please also take the time to post pictures of your new family member on our Facebook Page.

Happy People, Happy Pets!
Like people, cats have their own personalities and it may take some time for their true personality to emerge. We want to ensure our adopters have adequate time to get to know their new pet in a home environment before making a lifetime commitment. If the match doesn’t work out, that’s ok! Our philosophy is Happy People, Happy Pets! If you find your adopted pet is not the right match for you, we encourage you to return them back to us. Our philosophy benefits everyone. The adopter is providing us with valuable information about the pet’s behavior in a home, which will help us make a better match for that pet. The pet has a mini-vacation from the stress of shelter life. We will continue to assist the adopter in finding their perfect match. Please contact us at (757)722-0590 or email us at info@thecatcornerinc.com to make an appointment to return the pet.
